Romanian born Paul Lobel, one of the most well-known of the mid-20th Century modernist jewelers, was also a successful painter, cartoonist, sculptor, and designer of glass, furniture and hollowware. From modest beginnings on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Lobel rose to achieve a one-man show in Paris in 1925, two awards at the International Exposition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1937, and 2 exhibitions at the American Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
