She graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts as a fashion artist in 1953 and started as a designer at Kalevala Jewelry three years later. Then as the head designer between 1963 and 1967. She then went on to open her own shop. She earned her degree at the Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture in 1953. The ultramodern silver jewelry designed by Häiväoja looks just as futuristic today as it did more than half a century ago.
