Superb oversized modernist floral brooch by Angela Conty, beautifully crafted in sterling silver with a sculptural three-dimensional orchid form. The design features a long, elegant stem leading into a dramatic open flower head with ruffled, textured petals that create wonderful movement and depth. A sleek teardrop black onyx accent rests upside down in the center of the bloom, adding bold contrast against the bright silver finish.

This piece has a sophisticated organic-modern feel, combining botanical inspiration with a strong statement-jewelry silhouette. The petals appear hand-textured with a hammered or chased surface, giving the brooch light-catching dimension from every angle. Its elongated scale makes it especially eye-catching worn on a blazer, coat, dress, scarf, or displayed as a collectible studio-jewelry piece.

A beautiful example of high-impact sterling floral jewelry with an artistic, sculptural presence.

Mannequin is a life-size torso representation

Angela Conty is an American studio jewelry artist known as a lapidary artist, designer, and goldsmith. She has been creating masterpieces for over 50 years! GIA describes her as a “renowned lapidary, designer, and goldsmith,” and notes that her work is strongly influenced by nature — especially flowers, leaves, twigs, seed pods, and organic forms. Her jewelry often combines carved gemstones with sculptural metalwork, and she is especially associated with fluid botanical compositions.

She studied art at SUNY New Paltz, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees, with training in drawing, art history, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and silversmithing. GIA also notes that she studied metalwork with Kurt Matzdorff, founder of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, and that she is a self-taught lapidary artist.

Bonhams catalog language describes her as an American master goldsmith and lapidary whose works have been nationally and internationally exhibited and collected; the same catalog material describes her as Italian-born American, with both cultures influencing her work. Her work tends to be one-of-a-kind or very limited studio jewelry
