In 1914, he and Olav F. Hjortdahl co-founded the firm Hjortdahl & Meldahl, which ran until 1931. During that period, he completed his journeyman's piece and was officially licensed in 1930.
After dissolving his partnership with Hjortdahl in 1931, he established his own company that specialized in wholesale sterling and enamel. The firm became a limited company in 1943 with Hans Myhre as a shareholder. Meldahl died in 1950, and the company was acquired by Hans Myhre.
