Stella (Estela) Popowski (1931-2008) was a Polish Jewish immigrant who moved to Cuba in the 1940s to escape the Nazis in Europe. She then moved on to Mexico and worked in Taxco in the 1950s and 1960s designing jewelry for others (Antonio Pineda, Los Castillo) and later for herself. She moved to California where she painted, made decorative items, and did graphic design (cards menus etc.). She passed away in Newport Beach, California in 2008.
